Taken captive by aliens you must fight your way off the alien ship.

Wandering the wasteland you venture off to explore a strange radio signal coming from a crashed alien spacecraft, but once you see the wreckage your beamed up to a alien spacecraft where you are trapped as a hostage, this is Mothership Zeta.

Once aboard, you of course have to find a way to get out but the only way to do that is to help out others who are captured by the aliens as well. The way you escape your cell is by starting a small fight that catches the aliens attention and let’s you have at them. Once escaped, you have to go around the entire spaceship looking for a way out while to certain task’s to get the others to help you.

Now I felt that Mothership Zeta is a great piece of content although you won’t be missing out on much if you buy it, but I like to call it “the add-on content that doesn’t matter”. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Mothership Zeta is tons of fun to play epically when using the new energy weapons although they feel somewhat powerful once you get back to the wasteland. Either way I had a blast playing this piece of content although there isn’t much special about it.

Fight your way around the Mothership!

Mothership Zeta is a load of fun but, as I’ve said in my previous reviews, there are issues that possibly won’t surprise anyone who has played any of the Fallout 3 add-on content. But for Mothership Zeta, there weren’t as much as I expected. There were the occasional freeze issue but rarely any framerate drops. This leaves me wondering why the other pieces of content aren’t like Mothership Zeta as terms to issues since for this content there rarely are. Some of the issues though is when you get probed by the aliens (yes, sadly your character has to take is like a man or women depending who you are) the game will lock up freeze, and sometimes when you have to destroy generators later. Now everything is still the same here in terms of gameplay and for sounds but one thing that is different is how when your low on health you can use arch ways to heal up and new to the game, is something called alien epoxy which is used to fix weapons and I recommend you use it on the rare weapons such as the Tesla Cannon.

MotherShip Zeta is a nice piece of content which I enjoyed from start to finish although this is just an add-on content for you to do to spend more hours on the game and of course you can come back to but has nothing to do with the game itself. Either way, it’s fun to play nonetheless.

Come and visit Point Lookout!

While roaming the waste’s you suddenly find out a boat has docked at the mouth of the Potomac river and awaits for you to take the trip to Point Lookout.

You arrive at the boat and a woman approaches you asking to help find her daughter at Point Lookout, of course you accept and while there you meet Tobar the ferryman, who asks if you would like to visit Point Lookout. Of course you buy a ticket and set sail to the southern part of Maryland. When you reach Point Lookout, Tobar tells you there is smoke coming from a house and says you should investigate it while you roam around the area, this is where your quest begins.

Aside from the other Fallout DLC’s this is possibly the biggest add-on to date. Point Lookout is huge other from the capital wasteland. Just exploring the area alone will take you multiple times just to explore the whole place when your not doing quests. Point Lookout is a whole different area and once you get off the boat the first thing you may do is investigate the house, what I did was explore because it’s a whole new experience away from the wasteland we all know. Bethesda did a great job making Point Lookout, the swamp vibe takes you out of the wasteland and let’s you know there were more areas effected by the bombs.

The Civilians won't take to kindly to your appearence

When your exploring you’ll get a chance to meet the folks of Point Lookout and when you do, they’ll greet you by trying to take you down and out. Gameplay is of course the same here, new weapons such as the double-barrel shotgun will make you want to approach everything differently. You may also want to know that this is one of the most challenging pieces of content that I have played thus far and there are many things you won’t see in the wasteland such as, a Swamplurk (which looks like the swamp man surprisingly) and the hill-billies who lurk around the area.

Now, like my past Fallout 3 DLC review’s Point Lookout does have it’s fair share of issues and like all the others, there are audio issues with the dialogue, there are still framerate issues and freezing issues and hopefully like I said in my past reviews, they will be patched asap. Point Lookout is possibly one piece of Fallout 3 content you need to download if you aren’t going to buy them all or some of them, this is worth your purchase.

A desperate message is heard throughout the wastes and you learn that this is more than a message. It’s a quest into The Pitt.

You meet a man named Wernher who asks you to help him get a cure that raiders in an area in Pittsburgh know as the Pitt have created to cure his fellow slaves. You accept and begin a quest to free his slaves, upon entering The Pitt, your greeted with a welcome comity of raider who go guns blazing on you as you try to enter. Once that’s taken care of, you start to make your way into the Pitt and realize that this is worse the capital wasteland. The slaves are being mistreated, and horribly taken care of and you then decide whether you want to help out the slaves, or the raiders.

This was a good way of opening up seeing how grimy and dirty, The Pitt really is. As soon as you get there you know this way different from the capital wasteland, the environment feels totally different and takes you away from that comfort zone that is the capital wasteland. Once your in the pitt, you can either be disguised as a slave or go guns blazing, but I chose to go with being a slave. I lost everything and had to work my way to get close to the leader of the pitt. You’ll fight in an arena to earn your place and you’ll collect steel ingots in the steelyard with new creatures to fight called trogs and boy are they creepy.

The Pitt, is a horrible place that you may choose to save or let it stay under the hand of the raiders.

The Pitt looks great on PS3 as it was on it’s counter parts. Everything you can expect in the Pitt is all here. The Auto Axe is possibly the most bad ass weapon that my character has ever held but there is a bug where it will sometimes disappear from your characters hands although your still equipped with it and well as making your Pipboy-3000 disappear as well. The gameplay is still that same however, if you have read my past review on Operation Anchorage, I found a lot of issues on there and I sadly found some on here. The framerate would drop randomly and the game would occasionally freeze here and there but when it was all smooth the Pitt wasn’t bad. It felt like, there was something missing without this content after exploring the wasteland this was much needed to visit another area other than D.C. . This content wasn’t as bad as Anchorage but, their noticeable.

Sounds are a bit different when visiting the Pitt. The sounds of the game make you feel like there is a lot going on in the Steel Mill and how horrific the place is. Another bug I encounter was with the audio again, sometimes there would not be any sounds at all or sometimes the dialogues would just not be up to sync or there wouldn’t be any dialogue at all which was bugging me as well.

All in all, The Pitt is a very interesting piece of content, the quests are good as well as the new weapons that you’ll receive upon visiting The Pitt. Hopefully Bethesda can fix the issues in the other DLC.

Scores:

Presentation: 7.5

The Pitt is interesting for those wanting to see what Post-Apocalyptic Pittsburgh is like.

Graphics: 8.0

A new area to explore and wander around, The Pitt looks good.

Sound: 8.0

Hearing sounds of the mill makes it great, but the dialogue bugs should be fixed.

Gameplay: 8.5

Still the same but new choices make you decide how you want this DLC to play out although there are bugs that will disrupt your play through.

Replay Value: 8.5

Once your done you can still come back to explore some more and do some side quests afterwards

Final Score: 8.1

Operation Anchorage takes you on a quest that will put you in the pit of the Battle of Anchorage before the Bombs dropped, is this DLC sturdy or does it fall short?

While roaming around the wastes you receive a distress signal coming from the Brotherhood Outcasts, of course you go to investigate and find out that there is a small battle going on but once that’s said and done the outcast’s ask for you help. What they need you to do is enter a simulation of the Battle of Anchorage and your the only person who has a piece of technology (your handy dandy Pip-Boy) that will download data to unlock a vault full of goodies once you finish the simulation. Once your in the simulation, your character wakes up with an objective to take out artillery guns that are harming the military’s plans. This is just one of the quest’s that you start once the DLC loads up.

When playing the DLC you lose all items that you go in with because in the simulation it’s not necessary. That means no stimpaks, and no ammo and other items that you would use. Only what’s provided in the simulation is the only thing you can use and in order for you to get health you use health dispensers that are provided for you in the simulation as well as ammo dispensers. While doing quests, you can have a strike team to help you out and you can choose who you want backing you up, say two snipers and an assault specialist. If you strike team goes down and they will, you can call in another strike team and choose again so you can make the perfect team when they aid you in your quest’s.

Though it looks large, Operation Anchorage isn't as huge as you think

What I liked was a change in appearance, how you go from the capital wasteland to a snow filled area that is in the midst of a battlefield and your caught up in it. Instead of seeing the same old capital wasteland it was nice just to be somewhere else for once. Now gameplay is still the same as always and the score is still there to back up the action. Now there are issues and sadly there are a lot of issues in Operation: Anchorage. Once issues I had was constant freezing of the content and what I would have to do it reset my PS3 and boot is up again just so it can freeze once again and I would have to repeat this process until the DLC cooperated with me. Another issue is the dip in framerate just when your about to head into the action the framerate will drop to make the DLC barely playable and this made me furious because there were barely anytime where the content would just play right. Hopefully Bethesda can patch this up asap.

Operation: Anchorage is a nice piece of DLC that is interesting to see how the Battle of Anchorage went during the Fallout 3 era but, with the constant freezes, framerate issues and audio issues (dialogue would not be up to sync or there wouldn’t be any dialogue at all) made this one of the frustrating DLC’s so far.

Scores:

Presentation: 8.5

Nice to see a new area for change.

Graphics: 8.5

Snow looks great, and so does Anchorage.

Sound: 7.5

Audio bugs are around and it’s not pretty, and the Fallout 3 score is still in-tact

Gameplay: 7.0

Awesome to run around and take out the Chinese Liberation when your able to play without and issues.

Replay Value: 6.0

Sadly once you finish it you won’t be able to go back into the simulation which I found disappointing. But the weapons you gain make up for it.

Final Score: 7.5

Bethesda has just released their first DLC on PS3 for Fallout 3, Broken Steel. Broken Steel takes you on a quest to end the enclave once and for all but does it make up for the wait?

So Finally, after all the wait the first bit of Fallout 3 DLC finally hit the PSN after it was delayed in September. Broken Steel is the first DLC released for PS3 unlike the Xbox 360 which was the console’s third DLC. Broken Steel takes place 2 weeks after the final fight for the purifier. Once you wake up you don’t realize what has happen in the past couple day other than getting the purifier started once Elder Lyons tells you that there are remnants of the Enclave left, it then becomes your job to stop them and take them out once and for all.

This DLC was probably the best to start out on the PS3, as the level cap was finally raised to 30 and you return back to the Wasteland after an abrupt ending. While playing the DLC, I enjoyed that I was able to roam free once again but, what I really enjoyed was using the new weapons that weren’t available before. Also, whats great is that there are new enemies to face and some are difficult than before and I had a hard time taking them out be perfectly honest. Broken Steel is great to get ahead before the other piece’s of content come out and I say it’s well worth you $9.99 .

Feral Ghoul Reavers are the toughest bunch in Broken Steel

Only issues I had were some framerate issues when it got to crowded on screen and the occasional freeze issue, especially when I earned the earned the gold trophy. Other than these issues, it’s a great add-on for you to max out your stats as much and earn new perks. Can’t wait for the next batch of DLC Bethesda!

Scores:

Presentation: 8.5

Fallout 3 is still the same as they left it

Graphics: 8.5

Still the same Wasteland we missed with extra places to visit

Sound: 9.0

Same score, but new gun sounds make it great.

Gameplay: 9.0

If you haven’t guessed it, it’s still the same but new choices make you decide how you want this DLC to play out.

Replay Value: 9.0

Once your done you can still roam around the Wasteland doing extra missions and our course earning trophies is never a bad thing.

Final Score: 8.8

Hello there, and welcome to Vault 101 where you’ll grow up in a safe environment that protects you from the out side world, and as well as a Vault where nobody enters and nobody leaves. Until you have to, when you grow up with your loving father and find out that he went missing and left the vault. Thus, you set out on a quest, a quest to find your dad and venture the wasteland of Washington D.C., filled with Raiders, Slavers, Ghouls, Mutants, and bizarre creatures that roam the area. This is a adventure of survival, this is Fallout 3.

Ah life ain’t it grand, peace, freedom, and bacon and eggs, yet life isn’t perfect from nuclear fallout’s and, war that ravages the wastelands of Washington D.C., this is where you come in, because once you take that step out of Vault 101, there is no turning back. You begin from birth, meeting your father and creating your character, then moving on to growing up. As times change in the vault you become old enough to have your own Pip-Boy 3000 and actually learn how to live you life at the vault, until that fateful day when your dad goes missing, and you have to leave the vault in search of him. As soon as you step out a bright light hits your eyes almost blinding you and showing you what happened to the outside world, and how it fell to chaos. That right there is probably a great beginning to a story like Fallout 3, a futuristic first person RPG set in the year 2077 and in the Capital wasteland of Washington D.C. . You play the role as, well…. you, because you are able to customize your character to completely feel the way and sorta look the way you want to look. From hair, to face, to eye colors, it’s all there completely customizable and ready to go for you to set out and face the wasteland.

A boy and his dogmeat

As you venture on out, you’ll realize that your free to do anything and yes do anything you want to do and also explore as much as you can with this limitless freedom you have, say you want to go to the Downtown ruins of D.C. you can do that but you won’t make it far since out in the world there are creatures that will kill anything that moves and with you starting out at Level 1, well let’s just you’ll want to take some baby steps until you feel ready. But with the area being so large, you’ll find new places everywhere you go, no matter what. Whether you go north, south, east or west, there’s always something waiting for you and ready to take action. Speaking of action the game has plenty of it, and plenty of blood and gore (so not suitable for the kids) also a lot of thing for you to do while looking out, you’ll take on a lot of raiders and fight alot of things out there but also take chems and meds to help you get back on your feet, but be warned to much chems and you’ll be addicted to them. The game is very solid on bringing a realistic feeling to the outside world and all of it’s horror’s in a nuclear wasteland but it can also be fun (thank Bethesda for the Bloody Mess perk) and no this game is not Oblivion with guns it’s way more than that and nowhere near it. When fighting in combat you are given two choices either fight it in real time or use V.A.T.S ( Vault-Tech Assisted Targeting System) which slows down the combat and makes it a real gun slinger game where you play chance on the body parts you select based upon your action points and hopefully get critical hits to take out your opponent , which in turn earns you experience points for you to level-up and gain perks to use in the game and help you out even more (like I said thank Bethesda for the Bloody Mess perk).

Say hello to my little friend!

The Graphics are top notch and incredibly good, Bethesda really took their time to make Washington D.C. look gritty and really depressing, also the characters looks amazingly good although there are the occasional pop-ins and technical glitches, but even though all those are there it won’t stop you from looking at the amazing scenery in the game as well as stopping for a moment to just soak in the depressed and bleak future of tomorrow. Other than the graphics, the dialogue is on the ball which characters responding to every question you ask them or to every jerk answer you give them, you can either be a good person or be a jerk like I said before and either be neutral or evil, but know this whatever you do, you decisions will determine the outcome of your ending and for me we’ll let’s just say I was very nice and got a good ending in order for me to complete this game. Although Fallout 3 is very long (took me 50+ hours to beat the game, which made it amazing) it is well worth it and very, and I do mean very well put together, and sadly there is no Game+ where you can play the game over with all of your past equipment but that’s no biggie. All in all, from the story to the graphics, to the dialogue, to the gameplay, Fallout 3 is a no-brainer for Game of the Year unless you have a reason not to buy it or at least rent it, this game has to be on your shelve. Do Bethesda that one big favor.

Side Note: This game was reviewed using a PS3 and something you should notice is that the game is sometimes loses it’s framerate but not all the time, also PSN notifications do bother the game but you can always turn those off or log off PSN (please patch that Bethesda) also there are no trophies yet! so if your that Trophy Whore and don’t want to pick up the game for that reason (which is stupid) then wait for the patch. Other than that the game plays as well as the other versions and shouldn’t be looked as inferior but as equal to each other. (Issues have been fixed with a patch and the trophy patch is now out, DLC is soon to come)

Scores:

Presentation: 10

Really well done, Bethesda knew what they were doing when they took the franchise over.

Graphics: 9.5

Amazingly good, there are the occasional issues but that won’t stop you.

Sound: 10

The sounds and the score are top notch and deserve a lot of credit.

Gameplay: 10

You’ll have fun from start to finish, and the game is very addicting.

Replay Value: 9.5

Once your done, you’ll want to play it again with diffrent choices.

Final Score: 9.8 / 10
