Punisher No Mercy Review

Not too long ago a game was released on PSN called Punisher No Mercy. When I got this game I did not expect much. for $9.99 it didn’t seem like it would be much either. well guess what. for $9.99 you get what you pay for! When I started this up I noticed right away it was an Unreal engine game. This seemed more like just a complete Unreal Tournament Mod!

Let’s start off with the story. JUST like UT3 it’s based upon multiplayer levels seperated by cut-scenes. In my opinion NOT GOOD for a story of a game. at that point your better off not having a story mode. but it gets WORSE! its only 5 matches too! on co-op it takes about 20 minutes to beat the story. that means though that this game is CLEARLY meant for it’s multiplayer but I’ll get to that a little bit later. The AI used in the story mode is just ungodly awful! all the AI does is run up to you and shoot. they won’t get behind cover to reload and provides nothing of a challenge. now the only thing that could make this game worse is the Cut-Scenes! the cutscenes are comic slides that are ever so slightly animated with horrible voiceovers.

Alright since the multiplayer is where it’s at lets talk about that with it’s gameplay. while you might want to mes around with the turn acceleration and sensitivity a bit it is actually VERY FUN! The multiplayer really goes back to what the original unreal tournament game was. fast paced, unrealisitic, intense action gameplay. The controls are realtively easy to learn and the game is fun to play with friends.
The graphics in Punisher are not anything to be amazed about. with suffering Frame ratre drops from an already low 30 fps the game often lags. however the graphics themselves are okay. your basic unreal character and enviroment graphics don’t make you jump out of your seat but for $9.99 like I said you get what you pay for.

The sound effects for this game are good but the voiceovers suck. Realistic gun sounds are the best you ca nget from the audio of this game however it’s soundtrack really does match the mood of the game the horrible voiceovers ruin the experience with horrible catch phrases and pointless rants the sound is not much to see.
After you beat the game don’t expect to return except for unlockables and a few trophies here and there. however the multiplayer will get you playing for hours. When you consider the gameplay and the online the game can do very well if you put the time into it. This game is a bloody mess done with some clean bullets.
Scores:
Presentation: 6.5
Loading screens and complexity make this game somewhat hard to get into
Graphics: 7.0
very low framerate and sub-par graphics
Sound: 7.0
Nice gun sounds and music but Horrible Voice overs hurt the sound of this game.
Gameplay: 8.5
The gameplay is nice and action packed however you may need to tweak the sensitivity a little.
Replay Value: 6.0
Nearly no motivation to replay the story however the online will keep you coming back.
Final Score: 7
