What’s wrong with the Uncharted 2 Update

The patch has unbalanced the game, in a sense.

Okay, so we all know about the update Uncharted 2 made earlier this week (Update 1.05). Let’s look at what has changed:
*Weapon damage and attributes have been rebalanced*
On-screen display of medals awarded during a match has been updated
Implemented detection and removal of flagrantly idle players from the active matchmaking player pool
Cash penalty for leaving matches has been adjusted and is now tiered by player level as follows:
Levels 1 – 20 = -10,000
Levels 21 – 40 = -20,000
Levels 41 – 60 = -40,000
Updated player networking protocols to remove all occurrences of “error syncing player data,” Level resets and Ranked playlist Skill Level resets
Added crawling ticker display of leaderboard statistics to the multiplayer menu screen
Updated multiplayer menu screen to include a “Trophy” selection to enable players to display and track progress on the new Trophies included in the Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack
Collision and geometry updates to various multiplayer maps
13 new medals have been added
What I want to look at is one item on that list and that is the first one highlighted for you.
Now what does it mean? The Weapon Attributes are not really what has been changed. What was really changed is the health. The health was changed during the experimental weekend Uncharted 2 had a while back. This health balance has it’s own set of changes: The sniper rifle is a 1 shot kill, player’s can easily snipe with the AK-47 making the Fail useless, the AK-47 damage and accuracy does so well it makes the M4 almost useless, blindfire has become a necessity.
The game has “balanced”.
“Balanced” means anyone can win, even if your not good at the game. It’s like communism and capitalism. In communism, everyone gets equal amounts regardless of their effort to get it, whereas in capitalism, you get as much as you work for. So in games that are overly balanced (mainstream) anyone can do good regardless of skill, unlike other games that are not mainstream where only the people who put effort into getting the skill and the technique to win get the win. Don’t get me wrong for some games, it’s a good thing to go mainstream I mean besides, going mainstream gets the developer more money if they appeal to the masses which is only proper. However, mainstreaming turns off the highly skilled players which are the ones that will play after they have accomplished everything and the ones who will end up playing longer and spending money on DLC. In the long run, I believe the update hurts Naughty Dog and the players. I am not the only one with this view point either. Many people do not like the update as a matter of fact, about 75% of Uncharted players do not favor with the update while some, want it to be in it’s own separate playlist.
