PSN Review- Call of Duty: Classic
codclassic

The Classic title returns to PlayStation 3 for the first time

You may be wondering to yourself why it would be a good idea to go back to playing the original Call of Duty Classic? I’m just going to start by saying because it deserves some respect for being the game that started such a great franchise. After playing the game myself for the first time, I really cherish being able to experience Call of Duty from the beginning.

When it comes down to story, you might not think it is much at first, but I felt for an older generation game, it had some really epic story situations that I think infinity ward back in that time knew exactly what they were doing. The story takes place over three acts and in each act you have the same goal, to win in the war against Germany. The only difference is you take the role of an American soldier, a British soldier, and a Russian soldier each with their own special purpose in the war. Now I won’t spoil anything for you further than that but I will let you know that I really enjoyed the story for what it was.

The game play can seem a little bit rough on the edges but it really wasn’t all that bad. You have an auto aim assist in case you need to find out where the enemy is in the knick of time to make that important kill or kills. I kind of was surprised by the fact I couldn’t run in this game like I would in modern warfare but after awhile I got kind of used to running like a slow poke, or so it seemed. There is a decent amount of ways to kill your targets, pretty much the basics though considering the time and place in history, but they do have a few surprises in store for you, such as leaning out to get a better look on the battlefield. I also found the game very challenging when all you had to rely on to stay alive were health packs you found along the way to recharge your health bar. One thing the game play helps you to focus on is the sniping from a distance, which I personally like about it.

What about the graphics you say? They really do shine! I’m being sarcastic off course but yeah what do you expect. Still though keep this in mind, it still looks decent enough to actually play so don’t take the graphics too personally, at least it’s not in 2d, be thankful for that.

Finally there is the multiplayer, which I honestly think the single player was enough to keep me entertained. Well all I can say about the multiplayer is its definitely not all that bad, and for the time that I played it with some buddies I actually enjoyed myself. It includes some of the usual game modes most of us know about such as TDM, Death match, Search and destroy, and Headquarters. Retrieval, and Behind enemy lines are something that I have never seen before and seem to be pretty interesting game modes. For the more hardcore gamer though I’m not so sure you would be interested in something like this for a long time, just enough to give you a taste of some multiplayer action. It should be noted though, that there is some people playing online and it can still be a fun online.

One thing this game shows off is that infinity ward definitely left their mark on it and really amazes me to see something as good as this made so long ago. I’m glad I got to play it and I hope this review has helped you better to understand a moment of great history in gaming.
