Infinity Ward is back again with Modern Warfare 2
When Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out back in 2007, nobody expected it to be a huge success as it is today. Now, Infinity Ward is back again with the sequel Modern Warfare 2, but does this sequel hit the nail on the head or is it a tad bit overhyped?
Modern Warfare 2 takes place 5 years later in the previous game. You play numerous roles as you progress through the game going from group called Task Force 141, to the U.S. Rangers. You begin by viewing past events that happened in Call of Duty 4 and by taking the role of Private Joseph Allen. Here you learn the basics as if most already didn’t. Once that’s said and done, you are then ready to take on the story. Many are expecting the story this time around to be more epic and much longer than it’s predecessor. Sadly, it’s long but extremely short since the campaign clocks in around 4 hours which is a disappointment figuring that many thought it would be a little longer. The story itself is good but not well done as it trying to make some sense that there is a story other than telling you that you have to stop a man named Makarov who rose to power once Zakhaev was taken down. While playing the story there are a lot of epic moments which was expected since this is Infinity Ward were talking about here. One minute you’ll be infiltrating a base in the mountains of Russia and the next you’ll be taking out terrorists in Brazil. Infinity Ward did a good job putting you in the line of fire.

You'll move from Afghanistan to the slums of Brazil.
One thing I want to get out of the way is the so called controversial scene within the game so to those who have not played Spoilers Ahead until notified. Many people were not expecting this to happen in Modern Warfare 2 and other never saw this scene coming. When you play as Private Allen he’s undercover earning to gain Makarov’s trust so that he may get more information and hopefully stop him before anything happens and in the game they do tell you that there will be disturbing content. What you have to do is mow down an entire airport filled with civilians and to send a signal to the world that there is another terrorist group who isn’t afraid to take things far. What many find disturbing is the fact that a game allows you to do this kind of thing. Many people shouldn’t take it out of proportion because we have seen these types of things in movies and by reading them in a book and somewhere along the line it is disturbing but the scene itself just makes you want to hate Makarov and show that the terrorist group is not afraid to be heard of. With the scene itself all it’s doing is helping out the story line although the story is somewhat wonky. Spoilers End Here
Onto terms of graphics, their still the same as you would expect from COD4 but there are some improvements as well as some downsides. From afar, everything can seem blocky at times and when you get close up to items they become very pixelated. Even with these issues, they won’t stop you from enjoying every little bit of action that you’ll be seeing once you start up the singleplayer as well as the multiplayer. Over in the gameplay department everything you remember is still here with little improvements such as the never ending enemies that respawn over and over, good thing to know is that that’s taken care of as once you take down the baddies their down for good until you move onto a different section. Another thing you may notice is that the grenade physics have improved slightly and move more often then they usually do which make them a little more deadly. What I liked is how there are alot of epic moments this time around which makes the game better than it’s predecessor. Sounds have been improved as well guns sound more realistic as well as the score is top-notch since Hans Zimmer composed the score making the game epic in those moments where all hell breaks loose.

Multiplayer is more kickass than ever before.
Enough about the single player and it’s epic moments because it doesn’t come close to what Infinity Ward does best, and that is the multiplayer. Once again, Infinity Ward hits the mark on the terms of addicting multiplayer. Modern Warfare 2 is a blast to play online, everything has been tweaked and balanced out as the community wanted. New weapons, killstreaks, and perks are waiting to be unlocked as well as new maps to be played on. Some original gamemodes are back again like the classic Team Deathmatch as well as Free for All, but new match types make an appearance in here as well such as Capture the Flag, and a new twist on gameplay. Infinity Ward has added 3rd person gametypes to the mix which means you can play online in a whole new experience. Frankly I find is really challenging and sometimes a bit difficult even though a little challenge never hurt anyone. Callsigns are new this time around, making you able to customize what kind of person you are and making your enemies know who you are and it does add a nice personal touch. Of course prestige mode is back with the level cap raised to 70 this time it’s gonna take a while to max out as we all know. What’s also new this time around is Co-Op called Special Ops. Spec-Ops is not linked to the story in anyway shape or form, it’s just another take on how you would go about in past levels as well as playing levels from COD4 which I found enjoyable because who doesn’t want to play “All Ghillied Up” with a partner and relive those moments in Co-Op. Just to give you heads up, Infinity Ward will be making Map Packs which will be available later on meaning players will have more to look forward to in the coming months.
Modern Warfare 2 is a great game but not Game of The Year worthy, the action is there but to me I feel as if it’s overhyped and something that we’ve already seen and experienced before. Kudo’s to Infinity Ward for making a great game with epic moments like as they are known for.
