Well I’m not sure it’s fair to say Sony released the slim with a bug because in their defense, the firmware update released either the day before or the exact date of the intended PS3 slim release. And since you would have had to dl the firmware update before using the PSN store on your brand new PS3 slim, there wouldn’t have been a bug. So yeah, the issue is that the retailers sold the Slim before Sony was ready for them to do so. If they had waited for the official release date, there would be no issues. I don’t think the bug was a retaliation for the early distribution, but something that was included because it probably would have been more of an effort to make the Slim compatible with older firmware updates instead of just making it compatible with the newest one set to release at the same time. I don’t know though, that’s just my thoughts.

Simple Sony has been at this for a LONG time. The gaming industry is almost 30 yrs old. How many games have come out on 360 that says ‘Do not sell before X’? Cough, cough *Halo* They didn’t tell retailers NOT to sell them early. With all the hype surrounding the slim, before E3 mind you, the demand is huge and Sony knows it.

this isnt a new thing. if you own an older 60gb system and then go out and by a new model system you might have to deactivate the account on your old system. its not that difficult go to your setting it should be either under system settings or in your player profile settings.

since retailers released the slim early sony released the slim with a bug.
so how did sony know retailers were going to sell it early?

I was trying to DL a trailer for a movie last night and I did get this error message. I was able to DL the demo’s I wanted, but at least now I know why.

I am having this issue and I’m very glad to see this article as I only have 1 phat ps3 and the new slim and I was not very happy. I hope the patch gets here quickly.

Really JAMMIY, do u even have a PS3? because u should probably know this by NOW. We HAVE to format the HDD EVERY TIME we reinstall it into the PS3. Unless ur talking about an EXTERNAL HDD and in that case SHUT THE FUK UP. We CAN’T DL to a EXTERNAL HDD. U appear to know NOTHING about this AMAZING CONSOLE i’ve had sense DAY1

Andrew, have you requested that tech support deactivate all PS3s from your account and reactivate your new slim? The issue sounds like an activation issue.
