UPDATE: Can't Download Game Content on PS3 Slim? Here's the Issue:

No Content for you on the Slim! (For Now)

Here’s some new tidbit for those that can’t download their Game Content on their PS3 Slim. If you just recently bought a PS3 Slim and wanted to download your content to your Slim PS3 it will say to you “Please Deactivate a System”, I then decided to call Sony because I knew I only have 2 Systems the Original PS3 and the newest Slim version.

After being on hold, a tech support told me the reason and the reason is and I do quote him:

“I am not suppose to tell anyone about this but, since retailers sold the slim PS3 before the release day which is September 1st, the PlayStation 3 Slim was released with a small bug which prevents from downloading Video and Game Content since the firmware is not compatible with the content, this is why were releasing a patch (version 3.00) either later on today or possibly a day after”

So there you have it, don’t fret that the Slim won’t allow you to download your content it should be patched either later tonight or a day after like the tech supporter said.

UPDATE: It seems that this issue happens to certain slim consoles as it seems people can download there content.

UPDATE 2: 3.0 has fixed the bug, go ahead and download freely.

O_o. For the past 3 days I have been redownloading all my content on the slim.

That is complete B.S. as I have had a slim for a week as of today, and the day I bought it I started DL all my games and add ons. No issue playing or installing, except for the time it took to re DL everything and install it all.

This is completely wrong! You are allowed a certain number of “authorized” PS3s. Simply deactivated your old PS3 and you will be able to download content. I have replaced a “fat” version with a slim version and I am able to download all kinds of content. Before posting articles like this, get your facts straight!!!!! Just because a support person states something doesn’t mean it is correct.

Strange, Since i’ve had my Slim, i’ve been able to download everything on xblive and the cross game chat works fine.

To Mike, it’s a strange bug from what the guys said, my friend who had a fat PS3 is getting the same issues I’m having. Don’t say that I am not able to get fact’s straight because I can.

I have no problem cuz I just took my hard drive from my Oringal PS3 and put it in my New PS3 Slim.. I did no redownloading or re installs

Andrew, have you requested that tech support deactivate all PS3s from your account and reactivate your new slim? The issue sounds like an activation issue.

Really JAMMIY, do u even have a PS3? because u should probably know this by NOW. We HAVE to format the HDD EVERY TIME we reinstall it into the PS3. Unless ur talking about an EXTERNAL HDD and in that case SHUT THE FUK UP. We CAN’T DL to a EXTERNAL HDD. U appear to know NOTHING about this AMAZING CONSOLE i’ve had sense DAY1

I was trying to DL a trailer for a movie last night and I did get this error message. I was able to DL the demo’s I wanted, but at least now I know why.

since retailers released the slim early sony released the slim with a bug.
so how did sony know retailers were going to sell it early?

this isnt a new thing. if you own an older 60gb system and then go out and by a new model system you might have to deactivate the account on your old system. its not that difficult go to your setting it should be either under system settings or in your player profile settings.

Simple Sony has been at this for a LONG time. The gaming industry is almost 30 yrs old. How many games have come out on 360 that says ‘Do not sell before X’? Cough, cough *Halo* They didn’t tell retailers NOT to sell them early. With all the hype surrounding the slim, before E3 mind you, the demand is huge and Sony knows it.

Well I’m not sure it’s fair to say Sony released the slim with a bug because in their defense, the firmware update released either the day before or the exact date of the intended PS3 slim release. And since you would have had to dl the firmware update before using the PSN store on your brand new PS3 slim, there wouldn’t have been a bug. So yeah, the issue is that the retailers sold the Slim before Sony was ready for them to do so. If they had waited for the official release date, there would be no issues. I don’t think the bug was a retaliation for the early distribution, but something that was included because it probably would have been more of an effort to make the Slim compatible with older firmware updates instead of just making it compatible with the newest one set to release at the same time. I don’t know though, that’s just my thoughts.
