Surprise, surprise! Activision knows how well-received its Call of Duty franchise is, so much so that they’re herding the flock into larger pastures. To this end, the publisher has just announced that Call of Duty as a franchise will eventually head into more action-oriented engagements.
From newly established studio Sledgehammer Games, which forms from leading executives Glen A. Schofield and Michael Condrey (formerly of Visceral Games), the developer is intending to bridge the gap of the series into a new era where action and adventure reign supreme.
For Activision’s 2011 schedule, it could be the case that their confirmation of a mystery ”Call of Duty” game launching within the year could tie in with the preceding details. However, it is unknown whether this title will be of Sledgehammer’s doing or of Infinity Ward’s, or where exactly the future lies for each team that makes up the Call of Duty family. What can be said is that this fall will still see the next iteration from Treyarch’s hand.
Beyond these details, Activision also has interest in expanding the Call of Duty name into digital territory, while the Asian market is where they have had discussions with partners to plan on selling the game when considering theregion’s boom in the multiplayer arena.
